The Garden Specialist started in 2006 with the goal of delivering exceptional gardening services, at an affordable price, after witnessing the need for true experts on the Fylde Coast.
By 2008 the business was well established and had the nice surprise of winning it's first 'In Bloom' gold medal due to a client secretly entering their garden into the competition.
Every year after, until 2019, gardens were winning gold medals in Lytham in Bloom, Beautiful Blackpool and St Annes in Bloom.
Some gardens were awarded the 'In Your Neighbourhood' award (highest, level 5) by the RHS judges of North West in Bloom and Britain in Bloom.
It only stopped due to a pause in the competitions due to the Covid pandemic.
Since Covid the business was scaled back slightly whilst David took time out for reflection and professional development, something that was long overdue after so many years in the industry.
The enthusiasm he had when he started his career is now back. He has increased his knowledge in horticulture along with current industry practices and is excited to be pushing the business forward again.
The business has continued to grow with a wide variety of different clients in both the private and commercial sectors undertaking all aspects of garden / grounds maintenance, soft landscaping projects, specialist lawn treatments, herbicide application projects and pond work.
David started off in a garden centre and now has over 35 years in horticulture in a wide variety of roles:
Qualifications:
Fdn Degree in Horticulture and Applied Plant Science
Fdn Certificate in Horticulture
National Diploma in Landscape Practice
PA1 & PA6 Pesticide Application Certification
Member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture
Mick has 30 years in gardening, working for a few different companies. He has experience of maintaining both small and large private gardens and commercial grounds maintenance. Everything from lawn care, hedge cutting and border work, there isn't much he doesn't have some experience of.
He likes nothing more than being deep in a flower border weeding and dead heading and has a particular interest in allotments and vegetable growing and has many years doing this.
Jake is still early into his career, compared to the other team members, but his hard work makes up for the lack of years in experience.
A very capable young man who adds youth to the team.
He doesn't have a specialism or a favourite task yet, he's just enthusiastic about everything.
